Electrical Damage

Electrical Damage

Our homes are filled with electronics—AC units, TVs, computers, refrigerators, dishwashers, etc—all of which can be costly to repair or replace once they’ve been destroyed by a sudden power surge. Power surges are common and unpredictable; fortunately, many homeowners policies include some protection for electrical surges. However, the devil is in the details: Some insurers, for example, don’t offer coverage for the electronic components that make your electronics work. If a power surge has destroyed some of your belongings, The Law Offices of David Yon can help you understand your insurance coverage and ensure that you receive the best compensation available to you under the terms of your policy.

Quick Tips If You Have Electrical Damage:

  • Consider installing a lighting protection system and/or a surge suppressor. Do not rely solely on surge protectors, which are not sufficient for many large appliances.
  • Immediately report your claim to your insurance company to get the process started quickly.
  • Avoid removing or replacing damaged items until the damage has been expertly assessed by adjusters.
  • Unplug appliances that have been affected by the electrical disturbance.
  • Get expert advice.

The Law Offices David Yon
helped on a 2-Year old claim

An A/C leak damaged a whole apartment.

The insured had an A/C leak in the apartment that damaged the wood floors. The
insured reported the claim and also hired a public adjuster. The insurance company claimed that the damage to the floors was cosmetic. It then underpaid the amount required to bring the property to pre-loss condition, citing a provision in the policy which limited the payout amount for cosmetic damage. The insured asked us to review the claim 2 years after the event.
